Red Truck, Red Barn, & Bourbon Cake

An interview with local celebrity baker and restaurateur Brian Noyes.

I am thrilled to interview Brian Noyes, owner of Red Truck Bakery in Marshall and Warrenton, to celebrate and talk about his newest cookbook tomorrow evening at Red Barn Mercantile.

I love all things Red Truck Bakery - the baked items are incomparable. Have you tried the Lexington Bourbon Cake with Fresh Ginger (and an abundance of bourbon!); or the fall Hoodoo Cake with Dark Chocolate & Cathead Distillery Chicory Liqueur (genius!)? It’s no wonder that Barack Obama named Brian’s pies as his very favorite. I’ll bet Obama would swoon over the Virginia Peanut Pie, a new addition to Red Truck’s mouth-watering repertoire.

Brian’s is a local success story. He grew up in California, but summered with his grandmother in North Carolina feasting on the comfort food of Appalachia made with love and served with grace. This had a lasting impact on Brian, who now owns one of the most popular bakeries in the country and is an important voice in the southern food movement.

Brian two locations are worthy of a pilgrimage. In addition to cakes and pies, he serves up lunch such as his popular meatloaf sandwich; or luscious granola; and belly-hugging breakfasts washed down with fresh roasted Bulldog coffee.

I won’t share more of Brian’s story here, as you will love hearing directly from him. He is engaging, fun, funny, interesting, and has promised to bring cake! You can’t beat that.

Red Barn Mercantile is one of northern Virginia’s most beloved and creative gift and home shops. I love the merch, the staff, and my friend, the curator and owner Amy Rutherford.

Please join me, Brian, Amy and an army of Red Truck fans for a lively evening and a delicious bite.
